Women’s liberation has changed the way that women think about things, and approach them, in many different ways. All of this has created some confusion, and some men aren’t quiet sure what women want from them anymore. Do they still want a man dripping with testosterone who will carry them off into the sunset? Or are they looking for somebody who will sit down and cry while watching Beaches with them and talking about their feelings?
Honesty – The number one thing that women say they want is honesty. By now you’re probably glowing, because like most people, you assume that you are an honest person. But take a good look at your online dating profile, or the way that you act on a fist date, and ask yourself it it’s really honest. Do you pretend to like things that you don’t? Do you claim to have values that aren’t important to you? Most men do this to some degree. The less you lie to yourself, the better off you will be. Women can tell when you’re pretending.
Communication – It probably isn’t surprising to hear that most women want a man who can communicate with them. And yes, women do want a man who is capable of talking about his feelings. A man who holds his feelings inside is more likely to have emotional problems somewhere down the road. A man who can’t understand a woman’s emotions, who doesn’t listen, or who hears what he wants to hear, is a huge turnoff to women.
Compromise – The biological drives inside a man tend to make him more competitive than a woman. Men are more concerned with winning than women are. But there is no winning in a relationship. A man who is capable of reaching an agreement with his woman is very appealing. A man who can admit when he was wrong is a man who is more likely to have happy, fulfilling relationships.
Emotional Stability – This is the counterpoint to communication. Women want a man who can share his feelings, but only if those feelings are stable and well-adjusted. They don’t want you to break down over small decisions or to react emotionally when your ego is threatened. Women expect confidence from a man. It is a huge turn on for them. This gives them the comfort that they can talk to you without judgement or offense in return. If you get sad, angry, or scared easily, this is something that you should try to get a handle on. Never expect a woman to solve these problems for you.
Appearance – Yes, women do care about a man’s appearance. While they aren’t as visually driven as men are, women would still rather have a man who looks good. Not everything about your appearance can be changed, but it is possible for almost any man to look “decent.” Stay well groomed and dressed, and try to eat healthy and exercise.
